Great song keeping me company this morning at work. And speaking of lampshades, we got some new ones this weekend. Why are lampshades so expensive???

Just thought I would share this classic today. No reason in particular except for the fact I do feel love!
After reading about the release of Keith Richards’ book, ‘Life’ James pulled out a big stack of Stones’ CD’s and sent me to work to get schooled on them once and for all. Haha. I’ve never been a huge fan. I mean, I loooooved Gimme Shelter (we watched it at the Paramount last year) and I know the “hits”. But I’ve never spent a significant amount of time in their oeuvre, as it were. Some have said I’m a “Beatles person“. I do love the Beatles but Pffft. There is no comparison. Both are amazing in their own right.
So anyhow, I started listening to The Rolling Stones this week. For Real. I’m now an official fan. They really are worth all of the hype. And I haven’t even heard it all yet. Some faves: Gimme Shelter, Under My Thumb, Sympathy for the Devil, Parachute Woman, Jigsaw Puzzle, The Last Time, Lady Jane, Monkey Man (the list goes on…)
OK so I’m also completely blown away by this performance from 1995(!). They are just amazing. AND they have a really fabulous website. Chock full of stories and photographs.

We’ll be watching Gimme Shelter again this weekend, I’d say!
There is a true chill in the air this week. Tonight we’re expecting some frost! I heard this Joni Mitchell song (below) for the first time this past weekend. Carol, James and I went to the King Family vineyard for a wine tasting. Carol played Joni Mitchell tunes for us while we drove through the beautiful Virginia countryside. We had such a great time!
Urge for Going is such a sad, lovely song about the fall. People who love music tend to have “fall music”. Music that you pretty much always pull out during the fall months. Maybe they are old favorites that always say “fall” to you personally. I’ve pasted a few of my fall favorites through the years below. Some are truly dated!!
Great song about reflection and change. What is it about the Fall that makes one so reflective? Who knows, but this song just hits a nerve.
Took this love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Till the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
And can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Oh oh I don’t know, oh I don’t know
Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older I’m getting older too
Yes I’m getting older too, so
I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I, I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I’m getting older too oh yes
I’m getting older too
So, take this love, take it down
Oh if you climb a mountain and you turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring you down, down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring you down
Well well, the landslide will bring you down
Around this time of year I start to have a major beach craving. With the weather getting cooler I feel such nostalgia for the warm weather and the time I spent at the ocean during the summer. (Some of you might notice that I tend to mention the beach alot on here). I do like Fall and the changing season, but feel sad at the same time with the thought that I might not be at the beach for a while. Earlier this week I spotted these great photographs of a beach in Portugal by artist Christian Chaize on 20×200. His photos document a small stretch of coastline in southern Portugal and just jumped out at me. I love the composition and palette. I can almost smell the saltwater and hear the soft muffled chatter of other people as the waves break and slap on the wet shore. Makes me miss the ocean all the more…
So I made a quick mix this morning with songs that convey a longing for the sea and posted it on 8tracks. Click to listen.
My sister-in-law attended a Hindi wedding last weekend. She fell in love with the music and on her way home she called me asking, “Steph, do you have any Bollywood or Hindi-type music? Can you make me a mix?” Do I ever! I put together my top choices in Filmi music for Anne this past week. It was so fun to get back into the music that I sort of got carried away and found some new gems.

Disco, funk and even acid house plus a lot of danceable tracks and a few contemporary hits for good measure.
